What is an AI demo agent?
An AI demo agent is software that demonstrates a product to a prospect on its own. It operates the application, either the live product or a captured replica, explains what it is doing in natural language, answers questions in real time, and hands qualified conversations to a human. Unlike an interactive tour it does not follow a fixed path, and unlike a chatbot it shows the product instead of describing it.
The term appeared in 2025 as demo software vendors added agents to interactive tours, and by 2026 every major vendor sells one. This page defines the category, separates the three architectures on the market, and gives you the questions that expose the difference in a sales call. RaykoLabs builds a live-product, voice-first agent; the comparisons below cite each vendor's own pages so you can check them.
How an AI demo agent works
- Knowledge ingestion. The agent reads your documentation, FAQs, pricing and playbooks so its answers are grounded in your content rather than in a general model.
- Buyer context. Before or during the session it learns who it is talking to: company, role, and what they want to see.
- Operating the product. A live-product agent opens your application in a real browser session and navigates it; a captured-demo agent steps through a recorded flow; a data-injection product loads curated records into the native app.
- Conversation. It narrates what it is doing and takes questions by voice or text, changing course when the buyer asks for something else.
- Handoff and reporting. Qualified buyers are routed to a human or a calendar; the sales team gets a transcript, the screens visited, objections, and a score.
AI demo agent vs interactive demo vs demo video vs chatbot
| Question | AI demo agent | Interactive demo | Demo video | Chatbot / AI SDR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What the buyer sees | The product running, operated by the agent | Captured screens in a fixed sequence | A video of the product | Text about the product |
| Answers questions | Yes, in the flow of the demo | No, or only via branching | No | Yes, in text |
| Adapts to the buyer | Yes, per question and persona | Limited to pre-built branches | No | Yes, but cannot show anything |
| Voice | Common (Rayko, Supademo) | No | Narration only | Rare |
| Breaks when the UI changes | Live-product agents: no. Captured: yes | Yes, re-capture | Yes, re-record | No |
| Typical pricing | Per demo, per seat plus credits, or enterprise | Per seat | Per seat or per video | Per seat or per conversation |
Three architectures on the market in 2026
Live-product agents. The agent controls the deployed application in a real browser and talks the buyer through it. RaykoLabs works this way, using Playwright on Browserbase for browser control and real-time voice models for the conversation, so there is nothing to re-record when the interface changes. Navattic and Walnut have also announced agent products layered on their demo platforms.
Captured-demo agents. The agent guides buyers through interactive demos that were recorded first. Supademo's AI Demo Agent, for example, supports voice and text in 50 or more languages, runs 24/7, asks discovery questions, and surfaces the matching captured demo, video or deck. It is billed in usage credits on paid plans. The demo library must be kept current by re-capturing changed screens.
Data-injection live demos. The native product runs with curated demo data loaded into it, so complex enterprise software looks complete for every buyer. Saleo pioneered this for sales engineers and added a chat-based, multilingual AI Demo Agent in January 2026; Consensus acquired Saleo on June 9, 2026 and now sells it inside the Consensus Product Experience Platform. Pricing is sales-led.
Buyer's checklist
- +Does it run the live product, a captured replica, or the product with injected data? Ask to see it on your own application.
- +Can the buyer talk to it by voice, or only type? Voice changes what prospects reveal.
- +What happens when it does not know an answer? It should say so and offer a human, not improvise.
- +What does the sales team receive after a session: transcript, screens visited, questions, a score?
- +How does it hand off? Calendar link, live transfer, CRM record, or all three?
- +What breaks when you ship a redesign next month?
- +Does pricing grow with demos delivered, with seats, or with credit packs? Model it at your traffic.
- +Can the same agent answer post-sale support questions, or is that a second product?
Where it fits in your funnel
Pre-sale, an AI demo agent replaces the scheduled first call for inbound visitors who would otherwise bounce off a form or wait days for a slot. Post-sale, the same grounded agent can answer setup and how-to questions inside the product. That is why RaykoLabs prices per completed demo rather than per seat: the agent earns its keep on every conversation, not on every login. Frequently asked questions
How is an AI demo agent different from an interactive demo?
An interactive demo is a captured, click-through replica of a product with a fixed set of paths. An AI demo agent decides what to show next from the conversation, answers questions, and, in live-product implementations, operates the real application rather than a capture.
How is an AI demo agent different from a chatbot or AI SDR?
A chatbot or AI SDR talks about the product and books meetings. An AI demo agent shows the product while it talks: it navigates screens, runs the workflow the buyer asked about, and reports what happened. Some vendors bundle both; the demo agent is the part that drives the software.
Do AI demo agents run the real product or a recording?
Both exist in 2026. Live-product agents such as RaykoLabs control the deployed application in a real browser. Captured-demo agents such as Supademo's guide buyers through pre-recorded interactive demos. Data-injection products such as Saleo, now part of Consensus, run the native product with curated demo data loaded into it.
How much does an AI demo agent cost?
Three pricing models are common: per completed demo (RaykoLabs charges $9 after a free 30-day pilot), per creator seat plus usage credits (Supademo lists plans from $0 to $450 per month with agent calls billed in credits), and sales-led enterprise pricing that is not published (Saleo and Consensus). Always confirm current figures on each vendor's pricing page.
What should I check before buying an AI demo agent?
Whether it runs the live product or a capture, whether it supports voice, how it behaves when it does not know an answer, what it records for the sales team, how it hands off to a human, what changes when your UI changes, and whether pricing scales with demos delivered or with seats.
